One of the most powerful questions you can ask just so happens to be one of the toughest. Something we’re all afraid to ask. ‘Why not?’
It’s a dangerous question. Many people in our lives will have immediate and unconscious reactions and reasons for why something can’t be done. Why something can’t exist. Most of the time, they haven’t even fully thought it through. But still, so often, we neglect to challenge those ideas. We neglect to ask – ‘why not?’
Diagnosed with ALS at the age of 21, Stephen Hawking wasn’t meant to do anything remarkable with his life. He went on to become a ground-breaking, world-renowned physicist, challenging thoughts and assumptions every single day.
Before the age of 2, Helen Keller lost her hearing and sight. She learned to communicate through sign language and braille, before becoming a prolific author, lecturer and world renowned thought provider, challenging thoughts and assumptions every single day.
We all know countless examples like this. Where people exceeded the expectations thrust upon them by the shackles of life. Yet still, we get bogged down in the never forever’s of thinking life will always be the way it is right now. For the worse. We think that nothing we do can change our situation.
This is far from the truth. But only if we ask ‘why not?’. If we challenge assumptions. If we work at every angle until we’ve exhausted all of our options. If we learn by our mistakes. If we grow with every moment that passes us by and actively work on the things holding us back.

The act of trying, the act of persevering, the act of fighting for what we believe is worth fighting for, will all be worth it. Even if nothing comes from that fight.
This is the mindset that has led me to fall flat on my face (literally).
This is also the mindset that has led me to achieve. To discover a whole new world of what I’m capable of achieving.
Asking ‘why not?’ is an art-form that we often think will paint us in a negative light. Truth is, the rewards you can reap from asking ‘why not?’ will only lead to positive results. Whether that be in the form of success or failure. So I dare you.
Today, don’t ask why. Ask why not?
